Traumatic Brain Injury is
not out of the ordinary.
But recovery, research, and help should be extraordinary.
How can the UW TBI Model System help you?
What are “Model Systems” of care?
University of Washington Medical Center and Harborview Medical Center
The University of Washington Traumatic Brain Injury Model System is one of 16 government funded Model System centers in the United States. Each center provides a multidisciplinary system of rehabilitation care, including emergency, acute, and post-acute services. The TBI Model System is the largest long-term study of people who have experienced TBI and seeks to understand how people recover from Brain Injury and what health issues continue to persist. We recruit participants who are receiving care on the Inpatient Rehabilitation Unit at Harborview or the University of Washington Medical Center.
The Traumatic Brain Injury Model System team does research to improve the health of people who have had traumatic brain injuries. Structural racism, which is any policy or procedure that contributes to inequality, can make people sicker - especially people who are Black, Indigenous, and other People of Color, as well as LGBTQ+ communities, people with low income and those with disabilities. We are committed to improving the lives and well-being of people who have experienced traumatic brain injuries, and that includes using our research to increase awareness of the effects of racism.
Why get involved with TBI research?
It’s simple:
Data changes policy.
And policy changes lives.
